Everyone know the general steps and methods of Social media but How you follow them will determine whether you fail on social media promotion or succeed
Social profile is the foremost face of any brand or blog that plays an important role in gaining credibility among the potential visitors. It has has grown from just a platform to connect with friends and family to a huge marketing medium.
Social media holds immense power today and it is important to adapt to the fast paced social trends to actually enjoy the benefits and stay on top or your entire brand presence will be a total failure.
Why you fail on Social media ?
Check out these simple points why you fail on social media and make sure never commit these blunders to get a better edge for your social media efforts.
Posting about Yourself or your Brand only
This is one major mistake committed by lots of people and brands alike; don’t think everyone is only interested in your latest blog post or what you did lately unless you are Chuck Norris or something.
Everyone is self-centered; you and me, it’s just a big fact. The fact to think is people who gaze around your posts and tweets are mainly wondering what is in it for them? Some cool information, entertaining stuff or giveaways; that is what most people are looking to find. And do take note that they have very short attention span, so if you hide some valuable information in a lot of junk be assured it will be missed by all.
Make sure you try to follow the 80-20 rule, which is 80% your posts must usually include some high valuable or entertaining content and only 20% should refer to your site or about yourself only.
Not posting share-worthy content
Social media interaction is entirely different based on your target. If you are connecting with friends and family then you can post almost anything you want because they are most probably going to bear you.
It’s rarely about business or serious issues and that is why it is so necessary for you to keep up with entertaining and engaging content all at the same time, to stay in their heads and mind for a long time.
But when you are a brand looking for Social media presence or a blog looking for loyal followers then the rule suddenly changes, what you post on your Social media profile reflects on your brand image. Hence it is important to post quality content that is worth sharing and not just your random thoughts or images.
The primary target should be to share content that gets shared by most people so you are able to reach a larger audience and grow your community.
Posting at the wrong time
Timing is very important when it comes to Social media. Your posts and messages will get buried deep down if you posted at the wrong time by other posts.
Hence it is important to know the best timings to post a new content and that I cannot teach you because your audience and time zone will play the important factor in determining the optimal time.
But you can easily identify it yourself if you keep tabs on your Social media platform analytics for a week or two. Soon you can identify the best time when your post received the most engagements and time when it received barely 2-3 shares. From there you can utilize that data to make a time-sheet and use it for best results.
From a survey conducted it was found people normally check social media during mornings, noon breaks from 1-3 PM, late evening hours, and weekends. Use it as a blind reference and next time you tweet or share something keep in mind about timing it right.
Not posting regularly, systematically and consistently
Most people do impressive work at the start, putting up a lot of worthy posts and tweets and almost getting noticed by many people but as time goes on distractions take place and they slowly began to fade away.
Just like making new blog posts, your social media interaction also should be regular. Your audience expects something new from you and if you fail to update your social feeds with latest updates people are probably going to get disappointed and eventually unfollow you soon.
Best method here is to prepare a lot of valuable content ahead and make a collection first, so they are always ready, so you’ll never run out of content and better yet there are a lot of automatic content posting systems both paid and free which lets you schedule the time and day of each posts and tweets so saves a ton of your time.
No one likes those who come and Go, also keep in mind those who Entertain and educate will succeed in Social Media.
Not socializing enough
Always remember it is “social media,” not “sell-me media,” so make sure your first priority is always building and nurturing relationships. Entertain and engage your audience with fun and worthy content.
Imagine if you just met someone on the metro would you just go ahead and tell them about your brand and services or you befriend him/her first? There is something called social dance where you get to know each other, they need to know you better before they trust you and the services you put forwards.
So always make sure you don’t post tons of content to someone who you just connected without actually engaging with them first or would either result in you being blocked, completely avoided or branded as a spammer and you being a big fool who keeps posting stuff which no one will ever care to look at.
Posting Unauthorized or Fake Contests
While it is true Hosting Giveaways and contests in Social media will make your post go viral and gain brand exposure to large audience, most social sharing media like Facebook and Google+ has strict rules about contests and giveaways, and they will penalize you for not sticking to the rules.
You are not to provide any kind of gifts, or prize, in exchange for Likes & Shares. And hosting fake giveaways can suddenly harm your brand image or even get your account banned.
Still if you want to arrange a contest or Giveaway make sure you follow the steps and do it in proper way.
Purchasing Likes and Tweets
All social media whether it be Google+, Twitter or Instagram values their likes and shares to a very high extent; it is the prime authenticity and currency of that respected platform, so if you try to purchase these through third parties or exchange sites be prepared to face the penalty levied by these social giants.
Although most of these claim to be organic you should know that these social media giants has special teams to spot unnatural spikes in the flow, so beware.
Moreover what is the use of 10k paid likes or followers if those are fake accounts or bots which is never going to engage with your messages or do you any good?It is better to have 100 organic fans that are going to interact with you and your contents and earn them with share-worthy posts and interaction. There are many ways to increase your Twitter following with ease.
Not replying & Mishandling negative comments
Just as in blogging when someone comments or ask for some help make sure you are there for them as soon as possible. Sometimes people just leave comments that do not require a reply, but make sure to show your appreciation by leaving a simple Thanks. It will go a long way and everyone will know you are listening and paying attention.
Although it may seem simple but this is a huge break or make point, people are less likely to leave comments if it looks deserted without any response from you.
Just as good comments sometimes you’d have to face negative comments and complaints, maybe it’s just an angry little kid who enjoys yelling. But first of all try not to delete or hide those comments unless it is too much vulgar or abusive, and never lose your cool. Try to maintain a calm mind and make sure not to get in a heat conversation. The Basic Rule is “Don’t Feed the Troll“.
Sometimes it would be valuable criticism; appreciate them for valuable input and improvise and evolve to the next level. Most people love it when you can take criticism and accept mistakes; they will respect and trust you even more and recommend you to their friends.
You may know the general Social Media features and practices, but these silly mistakes could ruin your entire social media presence. They may seem simple and silly but they could be the reason of your Social Media failure. Make sure to stick to the basics and use some common sense with it, you’ll be good to go.
